Mundy Township recently celebrated the opening of its Miracle League Field, a baseball field designed to be fully inclusive for athletes of all abilities. After nine years of effort, the ribbon was finally cut, and the field was ready for play. Brian Caine, who spearheaded the project at 14, said the field's completion was a testament to the community's dedication and hard work. Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II, present at the event, highlighted the field's significance, calling it "a beautiful thing" that will allow everyone to participate in team sports.
The journey to bring this field to life was not without challenges. Mundy Township Supervisor Tonya Ketzler explained that the original project cost was $450,000, but the pandemic nearly doubled that amount to $900,000. However, the community successfully raised over $400,000, with the rest coming from grants and donations. The field includes lighting, a scoreboard, accessible bleachers, and dugouts, creating an environment where athletes of all levels can enjoy the game.
Miracle League Fundraising Chair Bernie Romain emphasized that the field is about more than just baseball—it's about giving many children their long-awaited "turn at bat" in a sport that unites communities. The field is expected to bring excitement and joy to Mundy Miracle Commons for years to come.
